Freeze to Death Plunge Tub is something unheard of and quite intimidating to most. Our team has already had the chance to review a few of Plunge’s models, including the All-In and Cold Plunge tubs. So, when I saw that they had released a limited edition Freeze to Death Plunge Tub, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it.
A few minutes after its release, I jumped at the opportunity to grab one of the 300 units available. It also comes with a Certificate of Authenticity to show you really own this rare piece of hypothermia boosters.
With my previous experience with Plunge products, I was curious to see how this tub would stand out from the rest and if it was truly worth the hype.

Unboxing and First Impressions
The Freeze to Death Plunge Tub arrived in a wooden box, which wasn’t surprising since that’s pretty standard for ice bath deliveries. However, what stood out was the way everything was packaged separately—the tub, the chillers, and the other accessories all came in their own secure boxes.
I guess that makes sense when it comes to keeping everything safe during transport. The setup looked promising right from the start, with each piece seemingly well-protected and ready to go. It gave me a good first impression of how much care they put into this product.
I also couldn’t help but notice how the tub is designed to look like a giant can with the text “open a cold one” on the side. If you’re into memes, this quirky tub is definitely something you’d want to show off to your friends.
Setup and Features
Setting up the Freeze to Death Plunge Tub took me around half an hour. It could’ve been faster, but the limited space I had to work in slowed things down. If you’re thinking of where to place it, I suggest setting it up under a tree or at least on a deck with proper shading. Direct sunlight, even for a short time, can be harsh, and it’s best to avoid unnecessary exposure while focusing on the setup.
The tub’s overall build is solid and similar to other Plunge products we’ve reviewed, like the All-In and Cold Plunge tubs. One of my favorite features is the app-controlled chiller, which allows you to adjust the water temperature remotely. It’s convenient and ensures the water stays at a freezing level with little effort on your part. The tub itself holds the cold exceptionally well, even after extended use.
Plunge offers a Cold Climate Protection option for those living in particularly chilly areas. You can add a heater to prevent the water from freezing, which would be helpful for anyone using the tub outdoors in extreme conditions. Personally, as someone who lives in Australia, I didn’t need this, but it’s a good option for colder climates.
One thing I didn’t like (and they mention this on their website as well) is the lack of stairs to exit the tub. If you’re not close to six feet tall, it’s not hard to imagine how getting out can be a bit tricky. They include a step stool, which helps with entering, but climbing out could be challenging for shorter individuals.
Another notable feature is the upright design of the tub, which makes it more space-efficient than horizontal models. Even though it’s upright, the tub feels spacious enough for a comfortable plunge. The Death Lid that comes with the tub isn’t just for the cool factor—it genuinely keeps the cold inside when the tub’s not in use. The included Step Stool is sturdy and helpful, but again, it’s not enough to make getting out of the tub as easy as it could be if there were built-in stairs.
Freeze to Death Actual Experience
Taking the first plunge into the Freeze to Death Tub was exactly what I expected—a shock to the system, but in a good way. The water temperature stayed consistently freezing, and I could really feel the benefits of a true cold plunge almost immediately. It’s worth noting that the upright design makes the experience different from the usual horizontal tubs, but I didn’t feel cramped inside. The app-controlled chiller worked seamlessly, keeping the temperature where I wanted it throughout the session.
I stayed in for about three to five minutes, and while it was tough at first, the cold shock started to feel invigorating after a bit. One thing to consider is how the tub holds up over longer sessions. The consistent chill is a major plus for those who prefer extended plunges without the water warming up too much. I didn’t use the optional heater, but I imagine it would come in handy for people in colder climates. For me, the cold on demand was just right.
One feature I really enjoyed was controlling the temperature through the app—I was literally flirting with hypothermia at one point! The biggest difference compared to other tubs is how quickly the temperature drops when you adjust it, which was impressive.
That said, this feels more like a recovery tool for serious athletes rather than the average person. You’re standing the whole time, with no seat or support for your lower body, which might not be ideal for everyone. The tub holds the cold remarkably well and maintained the temperature throughout my session. It’s effective, but you have to be ready for a more intense, upright experience.
Maintenance and Cleaning
Plunge has a simple chemical maintenance protocol that’s easy to follow. I can’t disclose the exact details (I’ll leave a bit of mystery), but it took me less than five minutes to complete the procedure. One downside, though, is the moisture buildup—similar to condensation on a cold can.
If you place the tub indoors, the moisture could dampen your interior, so it’s definitely best to set it up outside. Like I mentioned earlier, under a tree or in a waterproof spot would be ideal to avoid this issue.
My Thoughts on Its Price Value
At $5,990, the Freeze to Death Plunge Tub might seem a little on the steep side, especially when compared to other cold plunge options out there. Sure, you’re getting a well-built tub with a powerful chiller, integrated app control, and a few cool accessories, but it still feels like a premium price.
To me, the value seems more in the unique Liquid Death x Plunge branding and the quirky can design. At its best I’d say it should be closer to $4,000.
If you’re not tied to the branding and want a more basic cold plunge experience, you might want to consider the Ice Barrel 400. It’s a solid alternative that provides a more stripped-down version, without the extras but at a more affordable price point.
So, ultimately, if you’re willing to pay for the novelty factor and high-end feel, the Freeze to Death Plunge Tub could be worth it. But for those just looking for a cold plunge, there are cheaper options out there.
Final Verdict: It's an Athlete's Investment
After spending time with the Freeze to Death Plunge Tub, I can confidently say it’s a great option—though not for everyone. The collaboration with Liquid Death brings a fun, quirky design that stands out, and the functionality of the tub is top-notch.
The rapid temperature drop, durable build, and convenient app control are major pluses. However, the price tag leans toward being a luxury purchase, especially with the added branding. If you’re an athlete or a serious cold-plunge enthusiast, it’s a solid investment.
